2015 Miss California Judges

Paula Fansler

CSUF English graduate and returning Miss California judge (2004), Paula taught secondary Language and Theatre Arts in Fresno-Clovis-San Diego for 38 years. She was a national exam reader for Advanced Placement Language and Composition and co-founded Pursuits for Higher Learning with colleagues at Roosevelt High School, mentoring students seeking academic dreams. Local performer and director, Paula is a lyric soprano, who enjoyed singing acapella Italian and Broadway tunes at Macaroni Grill for six years, a little known fact! Paula is classically trained in both vocals, and piano. She presently cantors weekly at St. Paul Newman Center. Paula’s passion for revitalizing neighborhoods led her and husband, to form a company targeting distressed properties. They recently rebuilt a 93 year old triplex in Fresno’s Tower District. This adventure continues. Meanwhile, they are Nonni and Poppa to (almost) 6 young grandchildren, a nonstop source of hilarity, light and love.

Dr. Kenneth Froelich

Dr. Kenneth D. Froelich currently resides in Fresno, CA where he is As- sociate Professor in Music Composition at California State University, Fresno.

Kenneth’s compositions have been performed internationally in eleven countries, as well as numerous major cities across the United States. Kenneth’s works have been presented by acclaimed ensembles such as the American Composers Orchestra, Earplay, the Empyrean Ensemble, the California E.A.R Unit, the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, the Cornell Symphony Orchestra, and the University of Southern California Symphony Orchestra, among others. Kenneth’s Symphony No. 1: Dream Dialogs was recently recorded in summer 2014 by the Brno Symphony Orchestra in the Czech Republic and released by Ablaze Records.

Kenneth has been honored with awards from ASCAP, NACUSA, Meet the Composer, the Percussive Arts Society, the American Composers Forum, and the Society of Composers Inc. He was recently honored with the 2015 Provost’s Award for Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activity at Fresno State University.

Maxine Mahon

Maxine Mahon is the founding director of California Ballet Company, San Diego.

She is a National Endowment for the Arts grant recipient, and the State Department’s first American dance educator cultural exchange artist to Romania.
Her rich performing background includes five years with Starlight Opera, seven years featured in the San Diego Ballet, and featured positions in the National Ballet of Washington, D. C. and the California Ballet. Her formal education yielded a Bachelor of Arts degree from San Diego State University. She also holds a Certificate of Completion in the Vaganova Method from Tbilisi State Choreographic Institute, Georgia, USSR.

Ms. Mahon’s works have been staged for other companies including the Theatre Ballet of Sacramento, the San Diego Opera, and the Canadian Opera House in Toronto.

Ms. Mahon is a member the IBC-CID, the official umbrella organization for all forms of dance worldwide, under UNESCO.

Michael Moloney

Globally renowned interior design expert, fashion aficionado, and nine season veteran of ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, Michael Moloney, is the most sought after design and Luxury expert in and out of Hollywood. Michael is also the National co-spokesperson (alongside Bethenny Frankel) for Hanes. In addition to his design career, Michael remains one of our favorite television personalities, appearing in Clean House, Style Network, The View, EXTRA!, Entertainment Tonight, Designers Challenge, Less than Perfect, Access Hollywood, Fashion Wrap, Dancing with the Stars and is the three year host of ABC’s The Great Christmas Light Fight.

Michael is a California native, and currently owns and operates two design stores (Maison Luxe & Le Garage) in Manhattan Beach. His design work draws many celebrity clients, and his notable projects include work with The Walt Disney Company, the NFL, Mars, and Oral-B.

When Michael isn’t in front of the camera, you can find him relaxing with his family.

Debbie Astone

Deborah Adishian-Astone is the Interim Vice President for Administration and Associate Vice President for Auxiliary Operations at California State University, Fresno. She attended Fresno High School and received both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees (Business) from Fresno State.

Deborah started as a Student Assistant and has held various administrative positions during her career at Fresno State including Project Coordinator for the $103 million Save Mart Center project. She also serves as Executive Direc- tor for the Fresno State Foundation. She is involved with several new major campus development projects including the Jordan Agricultural Research Cen- ter and Campus Pointe. She was awarded the Top 10 Professional Business Women in 2002, is a lifetime member of the Fresno State Alumni Association and a member of Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. She is also a Delta Gamma alumnae.

She and her husband Mark have two children Andrew (23) and Matthew (14).

Ricardo Lauritzen

Ricardo Lauritzen has a passion for the transformative power of hair and has brought his artistic vision to a range of projects including fashion shoots, tele- vision programs, and music videos. Credits include America’s Next Top Model, Dancing With The Stars, and So You Think You Can Dance, among many others. He has also been featured on-screen in a number of programs, including Nan- cy Grace and , RuPaul’s Drag Race.

He appeared in a Spanish-language Pantene commercial and is currently the face of the Kashmir Keratin product line. Ricardo values his relationships with his clients and is a favorite among celebrities including Britney Spears and Miley Cyrus.

Born and raised in Brasilia, Brazil, Ricardo was trained by the prestigious Sas- soon academy in Santa Monica, California, and currently works at the B2V Salon in West Hollywood. He is known for his mastery of all aspects of hair, including color and extensions.
