2018 Miss California Judges
Michelle Ganci, of Clovis, California, is a Professor of Animal Science at California State University, Fresno and the Owner/Consultant for California Poultry Consultants, She has worked for many years in the agriculture industry in the state of California in the areas of corporate quality control, animal welfare, and food safety for the poultry industry. She also worked as the National Director for the American Humane Association in Washington D.C. Michelle is a leader in her industry, and recipient of many awards and honors including the California Poultry Federation’s 2014, Golden Rooster Award for outstanding service to California’s poultry industry– the Federation’s highest honor; a resolution from the California state legislature commending her leadership and service to the agricultural industries in California.
Michelle enjoys showing American Saddlebred horses throughout the United States and has received several local and national awards including the California State Champion – Pleasure Horse Award, and a top 10 finish at the World’s Championship Horse Show, in Louisville, Kentucky. She serves as a member of the National Affairs, Animal Health and Welfare Advisory Committee for the California Farm Bureau Federation. For the past 27 years, she has been a member of the Fresno County Farm Bureau and participated in policy development for agricultural enterprises and education. Michelle Co-authored “The Importance of Animals in Our Society.”, a textbook on animal health and welfare, and also develops online curriculum for agricultural education. She holds a Master of Science Degree with Distinction in Agriculture/Animal Science from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo and a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science from California State University, Fresno.
Michelle is the mother of two amazing children (21 and 23), an avid snow and water skier, and certified open water scuba diver. A fun fact about her; she moved 21 times before the age of 22, having lived in many states and along the Pacific Rim, including Guam, Tokyo, Hong Kong and Hawaii. She is honored to be a part of the Miss California Judges Panel for 2018!
Third Runner-Up, Miss Texas 2002, 2003
Megan Cain was raised outside of Houston, Texas in a town known as The Woodlands. She is a graduate of Stephen F. Austin State University with a BM in Music Education with an emphasis in Piano and a Masters graduate of Colorado Christian University with an MA in Curriculum and Instruction.
Her accomplishments within the Miss America program include 3rd runner-up to Miss Texas in 2002 and 2003, preliminary swimsuit winner, non-finalist talent winner, and the recipient of multiple educational scholarships. She has served on the judging panel for numerous Miss America local preliminary pageants, and state pageants.
Megan was a general music instructor in the elementary classroom for six years. She also owned and operated her own private piano studio, Cain Piano Studio, until she had her second child and chose to be a full-time stay at home mommy. Megan and her family reside in beautiful Colorado Springs, Colorado. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, boating and spending time with her husband, Jason, and their two children, Caleb Michael and Quinn, at their mountain condo.
Mr. Ellis began his involvement with the Miss America Scholarship Organization in 1973. He participated in all facets of the program in Kentucky, California, and Florida. While living in California he served as Executive Director of the Miss San Francisco Scholarship Organization. He went on to serve as Producer and Executive Vice-President of the Miss Kentucky Scholarship Organization, during that time he was a part of the Miss America preparation team that help prepare Heather French who became Miss America 2000. He is a graduate of Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, with degrees in Communication and Speech. He has judged and served as master of ceremonies in over 200 State and local competitions. The major portion of his professional life has been in the beauty industry. He has represented brands including L’Oréal and Schwarzkopf. Currently, he is the International Director of Sales for OLIGO Professionnel, a Montreal Canada based cosmetic and hair care company. An avid University of Louisville sports fan, he admits he spends considerable time at Churchill Downs, the worlds most legendary horse race track!
David M. Kietrys, PT, Ph.D., OCS, FCPP
Dr. Kietrys is an Associate Professor and Assistant Vice-Chair in the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. He attended the University of Delaware (BS), Hahnemann University (MS) and Temple University (Ph.D.). Dave serves on the International Editorial Review Board for the Journal of Orthopedic and Sports Physical Therapy, has authored more than 30 peer-reviewed papers and book chapters. He is a Fellow of The College of Physicians of Philadelphia and serves on the Board for the Friends of Rittenhouse Square (Philadelphia, PA). With the Greater Overbrook String Band, Dave has played the Glockenspiel and had performed as a dancer. He chaired the production committee for the band’s 2016 and 2017 shows and has served on the band’s Board. Dave performed for several seasons with PKM, a folk-dance group based in Philadelphia.
Fun fact: At the University of Delaware, Dave was a varsity cheerleader.
Lisa Seagroves Nulph
Miss West Virginia 1988
Lisa is a graduate of The American College of the Applied Arts with a degree in Fashion Merchandising. As a Communications student at West Virginia University, she won the title of Miss West Virginia 1988. Lisa worked in the advertising, tourism and lottery industries. She hosted the televised drawings of the West Virginia Lottery. As an Account Executive with the West Virginia Tourism Office and Virginia Tourism and Film Office, she worked on marketing and advertising campaigns, even wrestling a 940 lb. black bear named Caesar. An Account Executive with Scientific Games International, she worked with State Lotteries across the US. Lisa is currently Vice President of Game Content for GAMESHARK CONSULTING, a company that places patented gaming systems in the casino and lottery industries.
A member of the Miss Georgia Pageant Board of Trustees, Lisa serves on the Judges Committee and heads Miss America preparation. She had the honor of working with Miss Georgia and Miss America 2016, Betty Cantrell. She lives in Atlanta with husband Jim, Mom and 2 fur babies. Daughter Jamie works in the financial industry and lives in San Francisco with her husband Ike.
Keith Rigg was born and raised in the small farming community of Escalon, California. Growing up he enjoyed being active in sports and band. Keith graduated from California State University, Fresno, majoring in Agriculture Business. While attending college, Keith had many different jobs; the first of them with Blue Diamond Growers. This position launched his agricultural career. Later he became the Procurement Manager for Sanfilippo and Sons, a diversified nut company headquartered in Chicago. Today Keith farms his own almonds and is the managing partner in an almond processing and marketing company, Minturn Nut Company in Chowchilla, California. Additionally, Keith and his wife, Caroline, bought and operated her father’s dairy business. They operated the dairy for 15 years before selling in 2015.
Keith met his wife, Caroline at Modesto Junior College and was married in 1982. They have been together for more than 40 years. They were blessed with three wonderful children: A son (33) and two daughters (30 and 25), two Grandson and one Granddaughter. Many years of membership in the Madera 20/30 club, Escalon Lions Club, Escalon Planning Commission and as a Board Member of the California Almond Board have kept him busy. He and his family have been active members of the Escalon Covenant Church for the past 30 years serving in various ministries. In his spare time, he and his wife enjoy traveling the world and spending time at their cabin in Lake Almanor, California. Keith has a Westie dog named Elvis who always has his back and is a true buddy. He is looking forward to the competition and feels honored to have been selected to the Judges Panel.
As Director of Communications and Public Affairs for the City of Fresno, Mark is responsible for providing information to Fresno citizens through a variety of outlets, including broadcast and social media, as well as developing public awareness campaigns for City of Fresno programs and services. He also serves as a spokesman for the City with frequent appearances on local and national news programs.
Mark brings a wide variety of talents and experience to his position. An award-winning public speaker, his career in broadcasting spanned over 30 years where he interviewed White House hopefuls and American Idols with equal insight and grace. In his personal life, Mark is a theater professional with acting and directing credits in national touring companies and regional theater, and has also taken the stage as a symphony narrator, opera clown, and ballet impresario.
