A Quote a Day Keeps the Bad Away

Hi again! For those of you who do not know me yet or have not read my previous blog here is a little background on me for my new readers! My name is Kelsey Cardamone and this year I have been given the honor and incredible opportunity to represent the wonderful County of Sacramento as Miss Sacramento County 2015! I am 22 years old and currently attending California State University Sacramento, were I am working to obtain a Bachelors of the Arts in Child Development. But enough about me, let’s get to the topic of the day… MOTIVATION!

Finding motivation can be challenging. One main issue that I have noticed is how the recent generations are faced with the unique challenge of viewing everyone’s life as a highlight reel on social media. I currently work in a sixth grade classroom and I can see how social media affects young adolescents in their already-difficult struggles to uncover the person they wish to become. Surrounded by superficial images of what a girl or boy should look like or be like, I have found a single quote to share with my students, “Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life” – Steve Jobs. In life we need to do what makes us feel satisfied. Everyone has to find what works best for them. As cheesy as it sounds, what makes me feel happy and satisfied is a daily motivational quote to keep me on track. Every morning at 9AM exactly, I receive a quote from an app that I downloaded. (There are many apps out there that have inspirational quotes and motivation!) I highly recommend getting one if you are the kind of person who loves quotes as much as I do. Here are my top 5 motivational quotes and explanations to why they are relevant in my life:

  • “Never give up on something that you can’t go a day without thinking about.” –Winston Churchill

This quote never fails to inspire me. I am constantly thinking about a goal that I am working toward or want to start striving for. I cannot compare anything to the rush or satisfaction I get when I achieve a goal. I find that when setting short-term goals for myself, I am more driven than setting one large one. It allows me to feel good about myself each step of the way, and not just at the very end. For that reason, every week I write a long lengthy to do list. I would also recommend writing lists to help you stay focused, stay productive, and not forget things!

  • “Live your life like it’s your second chance.” – Salman Khan

Every day we have is a blessing, even our bad days. Sometime in the moment it is hard to realize that. I admit, I am guilty of this as well, but we must remember that we are blessed with each day that we have. So we must cherish our time and those around us. I just find it so important to remember that although there are often negative things in our lives, there are also wonderful and positive things too. Focus on the positive and you will never see a sad day.

  • “Judge me not by physical size or appearance, but judge me by the size of my character.” –Cornelius Kilgore

This a great quote because sometimes we get wrapped up from time to time thinking about our appearance and if we are ‘good enough’. We must always remind ourselves that it is not about the outside of someone it is about the character inside of that shell. As another famous quote says, “Don’t judge a book by its cover”. Our imperfections are what make us perfect and set us apart from the crowd.

  • “It takes an uncommon amount of guts to put your dreams on the line.” –Erma Bombeck

I love this quote for many reasons, but the main reason is because it describes what every pageant girl does. She put all of her heart and soul into what she is doing. Her dreams are to volunteer her time to make others happy and to positively influence the world. The amount of “guts” it takes to get on stage and answer a question in front of a live audience is incomparable, it’s certainly nerve racking! If someone is willing to put themselves out there to make the world a better place, that alone shows the uncommon amount of guts it takes to be a pageant girl.

  • “It is hard to fail, but it is worse never to have tried to succeed.” – Theodore Roosevelt

If you never try then you will never succeed. Sometimes it is scary to face the unknown but what makes everything worth it, is finally succeeding in your goals. Making mistakes is okay, we are constantly working towards our goals and we are not always going to be successful the first time. As long as you learn from your mistakes you are working towards your ultimate goal of success.
