Your Complete Guide to Competing in California

Welcome to the Miss California Organization! We’re so excited to have you. Whether this is your first year competing or your fifth, things are going to look a little different this year. We’ve made a ton of changes for the better. Please read this entire blog post before continuing.

In the past few months, we’ve invested heavily in improving our online experience for candidates and local directors, and in this post we’ll walk you through these updates and how you can get on your way to the Miss California crown.

With our redesign, the new Miss California site isn’t just the hub for information about the state competition, but for all of our local competitions too. On our Local Competitions page, see all of our competitions and find information on requirements, dates, and location. Here in the Blog, we'll share updates from our titleholders, newly crowned winners, and important information you'll need to know! Subscribe to our mailing list at the bottom of this post to never miss an update.

Getting Started

To begin your Miss California journey, visit our Become a Miss or Teen pages! There you’ll find a summary of requirements to compete and responsibilities you’ll have as a titleholder.

Once you’ve determined which of the two you are eligible for, visit our local competitions page. With information on date, time, eligibility requirements, and local director information, everything you need is now in one place. Browse the exhaustive list of all confirmed Miss California Local Competitions and decide which you’d like to register for. You’ll need this later.

Heading back to the Become a Miss or Teen pages, you’ll find a form at the bottom that says “Ready to Get Started?” To begin the registration process, enter your information here and submit. The site will automatically send you an email with next steps.

Registration with Miss America

In the automated email you receive from the site will be instructions to register in the new Miss America portal. After paying the $35 registration fee, you’ll have the list of competitions available to you on the Dashboard. To continue, select the local competition you decided on earlier in the process and follow the steps to register.

Competition Document Submission

We know that in years prior, it was challenging to compete in multiple competitions with their different requirements for document submissions to compete. That’s why this year we’re introducing our new Local Candidate Portal. After completing your registration for a local competition on the Miss America portal, your Local Director will instruct you on how to use the Miss California site to submit your Headshot, Resume, Social Impact Statement, Talent Music, and more! If you’re competing in multiple competitions, it will take only a push of a button to send your information to your local competitions before each occurs.

We can’t wait for this improved process to simplify your Miss California experience and are so excited to have you.

See you on stage!
