Sometimes I still find myself in awe that three months ago I was crowned Miss North Valley 2017 and given the opportunity to compete later this month at Miss California, but I will be forever grateful for the life changing experiences which my involvement in this organization has offered.
I began my journey in the Miss California program when I was 14 years old. Shy, awkward, and bumbling through my teen years, I participated in the local pageant of my hometown and instantly fell in love with our organization and everything that they stand for. My time as a contestant, and now as Miss North Valley, have given me an opportunity to improve both my life and the lives of others around me.
During my years as a contestant, I have been able to earn scholarship money so that now, one year after graduating with a Bachelors of Science from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo I have completely paid off my education. Because of this program, I have been able to begin plans to further my education at law school, in pursuit of my career aspiration to become a trademark law attorney.
Since crowned three months ago, I have volunteered at service events, like the Rady Children’s Hospital March of Quarters in San Diego, seeing first hand the incredible impact which the Miss America partnership with Children’s Miracle Network holds. Something which is incredibly important to me, is that I have been able to bring light to my platform, The Grateful Garment Project, a non-profit which offers aid to victims of sexual assault; I feel incredibly fortunate that my title as Miss North Valley has not only spread the mission of the organization but has also aided in collecting supplies and in-kind donations for their cause.
Beyond these enrichments which the Miss America and Miss California programs have offered, the relationship which I have formed with my fellow Miss California sisters have truly affected my life for the better. Being surrounded by so many intelligent, passionate and talented woman continues to motivate me to achieve my best self. I am excited to be reunited with all of our 2017 contestants in just a few short weeks and to hold friendships with these amazing young ladies for the rest of my life.
